Sweater knitting can be a big endeavor, and finding your people can help make it less lonesome! Drop in to work on sweater projects at Indigo Purls on Sunday mornings. Focused help and assistance from an experienced sweater knitter is available at our work table from 11 to 12. Punch cards are offered for folks that need this focused help, $30 provides punches for 7 help sessions. If you're just looking for company, that's free!

Blocking your work after your knitting or crochet is complete is the path to a high-quality finish for your items. In this class you will learn about when to block, different techniques and tools, and why fiber content matters. The instructor will demonstrate blocking with a hat and swatches, and will cover sweaters and other garments as topics. Class minimum is three participants.

Learn how to knit with Cheryl! Week one will cover the knit stitch. Week two will cover the purl stitch. These two stitches make up the foundation of knitting. Class minimum is three students for the class to be held. Yarn and needles are purchased separately.

Learn to knit fingerless mitts with Kerry. This pattern includes a decorative thumb gusset and provides a great fit. You will learn to use double-pointed needles and knit in the round in ribbing. You will learn a decorative decrease for the thumb gusset. This is beginner friendly - familiarity with knits and purls is required, we will teach you the rest. Separate purchase of two skeins of Plymouth DK Merino Superwash ($20) required. Minimum three students to hold the class.

Beginner Friendly Hat in three sessions; introduction to knitting in the round. You will learn to use double pointed needles for closing the top of the hat. If you've taken our Beginning Knitting class in the past then this takes the next step! with Kerry Minimum two students.

Maddy, our resident yarn spinning instructor, will teach you how to spin on a spinning wheel in this three part class. You will learn about different fibers that are friendly to new spinners, how to draft a yarn, how to achieve twist that holds your yarn together, and how to ply. Maddy will touch on various topics like different types of fiber preparation and tools, using a "Lazy Kate", and how tension adjustments on your wheel can help you make a yarn that you like. If you own a wheel you will need to have it assessed for functionality before class. If you do not own a wheel we have several for loan, let us know. Minimum three students to hold this class.

We will take on a new, fabulous square for the month of February! If you haven't tried our square of the month group you are welcome to jump in, any month and give it a try. Fee includes kit for test square and instruction. Third Saturday mornings from 10 to noon we will meet to learn a new granny square pattern from the excellent book "A Year In Granny Squares" by Kylie Moleta. Maddy and Sara will teach students to make the square from kits we provide. Purchase of the book is required to participate, each month a new kit will be offered for the featured square. A student discount will be offered for purchase of the book.

Tips are provided for success with knitting lace. Both charts and written directions are provided. Designed for knitters who are comfortable with knit and purl stitches, increases, decreases, and yarn-overs. Minimum 3 students.

Make the Mabel McTavish Tea Cozy in our Shetland yarn (or yarn of your choice) with confidence in stranded color work - and learn how to stabilize and cut steeks for the handle and the spout! Cutting your knitting for the first time is best done in a group with lots of support and hand-holding! Michelle helps you through the process in two sessions, and then you show off your work at an optional tea party the following month for friends and admirers. This is a fun project with plenty of challenge, knitters should have had stranded knitting instruction or color work experience.

Learn to spin yarn using a Turkish Drop Spindle. Maddy will teach you the basics of using a drop spindle to make yarn, including fiber selection and type, how to "park and draft" as a beginner, how to put twist in your yarn, and how to wind the yarn onto your spindle once you've made it, and how to ply your yarn for greater durability and consistency. This is a fun class that provides an introduction to spinning without purchasing expensive equipment. Student spindles are provided as part of the class fee and are yours to keep. Minimum three students to hold the class.
