Learn to Double Knit
Learn how to make double-knit fabric by creating a cute potholder you can use for years to come. Using a pattern created exclusively for Indigo Purls, students can make a reversible pad featuring a ram so fluffy, his wool practically drips over the edge!
Double-Knitting is a technique that allows you to create two sides of a reversible color pattern at the same time. It's great for making thick fabrics, like those needed for double thickness hats and mittens, or for making a nice barrier between your hand and that casserole dish.
This single-session class will cover the basics of double-knitting and how to read a color chart.
Prerequisite: You must be able to cast on, knit, purl, and bind off without assistance.
Instructor: Cheryl
Supplies needed:
Pattern: The pattern will be provided
Needles: US #7
Yarn: You will need two contrasting solid colors of worsted weight yarn. If you plan to use your potholder in the kitchen, do not choose acrylic, superwash wool, or mercerized cotton yarns, as these yarns contain plastics and will melt.
Optional but highly recommended: A row counter or highlighter tape.
