Knitted Pumpkin
Get into fall this spooky season by making a tiny bit of decor for yourself or a friend. Join Instructor Cheryl for a class on toy-making and craft a seasonal stuffed pumpkin.
Students will learn how knitting toys differs from other knitting projects, how to knit in the round on double-pointed needles, and how to make an i-cord. Time permitting, we'll also cover finishing techniques appropriate for toys.
This class is great for anyone -- from an adventurous beginner wanting to branch into new techniques, to a seasoned pro looking for a fast, fun project with a group.
Skill Level:
beginner
Skill Details:
Students must know how to cast on, knit, and purl without assistance.
Requirements:
Pattern: Petite Pumpkin, a free pattern you can find on Ravelry here: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/petite-pumpkin-3
- About 30 yards of a worsted weight yarn or larger. Find a color that makes you happy, but there are a lot of lovely orange shades to choose from in Indigo Purls. Note that if you want to give your pumpkin to a child, it would be good to choose washable yarn. The sample was made in Berrocco Ultra Wool.
- Double-pointed needles in a size that will allow you to create a tight fabric. The sample was knit using size 3 needles. We recommend getting the 5-inch DPNs, as this is a small project.
-Note that while this pattern can be made using Magic Loop or two sets of circulars, the class will not be focused on these skills.
- Darning needle
- Stitch markers
- Row counter or other method for tracking rows
- Yarn scraps and polyfill will be made available for students to stuff their pumpkins
