Hvammsvik Modular Blanket Knit Along (KAL)

Hvammsvik Modular Blanket KAL

Hvammsvik is a modularly constructed blanket pattern by Stephen West. It can be knit as a small baby-sized blanket, a generous throw-size, or a full-sized blanket. The interesting construction lends itself to endless color combinations! And the method of knitting and joining as you go means there is limited finishing required.

By weaving in ends as you go the back will only require blocking and snipping ends. The blanket is finished with an I-cord edging, framing your knitting with your favorite color.

The pattern provides clear instruction, a color placement diagram for each size, and links to tutorials for the techniques. The KAL also provides lots of support from your knitting companions.

Participants can go stash diving for colors of DK. Bring your possibilities to the first session, and we will help you round out your selection from Perfection DK colors in stock. Consider combining interesting finer-weight yarns like sock yarns that can be doubled to make a marled effect, or add a strand of mohair silk.

KAL meets Thursdays during drop-in knitting at the new Indigo Purls location in Lacey, starting March 20. Participants come any time between 1 and 3pm to get started.

Materials: Pattern is purchased by participants separately (about $7.67) and can be found at Ravelry.com or purchased through Indigo Purls. Bring needles in the required size and several DK yarn possibilities from your stash - get help and advice about color selection from the group. Additional colors of Perfection DK ($9 per ball) are available to complement a variety of color schemes. The small blanket requires 5 colors, the medium uses 13 colors, and the large size uses 22 colors.

Required Skills: This is an adventurous beginner or intermediate pattern. Participants should be familiar with casting on, garter stitch, increases, and decreases. Weaving in ends and joining edges and I-chord edging are described in the pattern and can be learned in the group or through tutorial links in the pattern. As a KAL this is not a formal class so skills will be picked up through group and store staff support, experience, and sharing.
