Hello Friends of Indigo Purls, Apologies if you are getting this twice, there seems to have been a glitch in the sending! So sending out again... I am probably like you, mid-way through summer and I haven't completed all the summer-y things I would like to do before Fall is upon us! On my list is getting through my "lighter" summer knitting projects so I can fully embrace the next season in all it's wooley wonderfulness. Here's what I'm working on: "Sliding is Fun" by darn.knit.(anyway) a free pattern.
One skein of Juniper Moon Farms Cumulus 211 Rainbow and one skein solid color 47. Very easy with a fun gradient color progression. Also on the needles, keeping it simple and easy... "Sophie Scarf" by Petite Knits
I'm making my Sophie with two strands of yarn, one skein of Plymouth Dream DK and one skein of Jorstad Creek Avalon Mist brushed baby Suri Alpaca (75%) and Mulberry Silk (25%) held together. This will be a great accessory to wear for Fall when the cooler weather returns and I just need a little something soft around my neck to be toasty. While it does look easy, I have to pay attention to the i-cord edging. Ok you probably can't tell from the picture (below), but this is bigger than a coaster. I used a larger yarn, color Amalfi in KFI Eco Bag, a recycled cotton blend yarn we have in the shop. I thought this project would give me some crochet practice making circles, as I have "mastered" (haha) the hexagon shape with my last project. This pattern is edged with a popcorn stitch, so I learned quite a lot doing this. I plan to make more, just fewer rounds to make them coaster sized. The color changes in the yarn will make each coaster unique.
About Crochet at Indigo Purls Are you a knitter who crochets, or a crocheter who knits? Or are you faithful to only one? My goal of embracing crochet this year (as a long-time knitter) is keeping me in learning mode. This August we are offering our next-level crochet class, Crochet II, so you can tune up your skills, learn how to crochet in the round, and take on the classic granny square. Maddy is teaching the techniques over two sessions on Wednesdays, August 6 and 13 at 5:30. Sign up at our website: http://www.indigopurls.com. Get ready to master crocheted squares! If you take the Crochet II class you will be ready to start the Battenberg Blanket with Sara on Sunday August 17 from 9:30 to 11. You will learn how to make this simple, solid, Battenberg square with Sara's preferred techniques. Then we will complete 9 of these small squares so that we can learn how to join them into a super square on Sunday August 24. Where you go from there is up to you! A full sized blanket like the original pattern or a stroller-sized blanket complete with edging like the sample in the shop. This blanket is a great stashbuster. You can choose worsted weight or DK, and supplement your colors from offerings in the shop.
New! Square of the month starts the Third Saturday in September... Fast forward to September 20, 10 am to noon, when Sara and Maddy start teaching from the book "A Year of Granny Squares" by Kylie Moleta. Each month we will meet on the third Saturday to take on a new square from the book. We will offer convenient kits (a wool and a cotton option) each month to make the featured square. As we gain confidence we will take on a full project from the book featuring one of the squares we've learned together. Jump in from the first square in September, or start any time, we will have monthly sign ups. September is already on the calendar and you can sign up at http://www.indigopurls.com.
Purchase of this wonderful book is a requirement to participate, so we will make them available at a discount. Please let us know if you would like a copy reserved for you! Send us an email at info@indigopurls.com and get out your crochet hooks! "Dingle" by Sabrina Schumacher in our two colorways for Sunday Crafternoon KAL. Thursday Afternoon Social Knit and Crochet continues The Thursday group is a great place for drop in knitting or crochet! This is a warm and welcoming group of crafters who gather at the work table at Indigo Purls. There is an optional craft-along project (most folks are done with their Ranunculus sweaters from earlier in the summer). The next project is a Tunisian Crochet scarf titled "Seattle Scarf" by Ashlea Schumaker. There's a free version on her website. Bring copy of the pattern, one skein of a fingering weight yarn and a straight hook in size J 6mm. Help will be provided with getting started if you haven't done Tunisian crochet before. All are welcome to join in, bring your latest project to the work table from 1 to 3 pm. Thanks Everyone! A heartfelt thank you to everyone for finding us and continuing to support us at Indigo Purls. It means the world to have your on-going support and engagement with the groups, classes, and good company. Keep on crafting and enjoy August! Kerry |
