Hello Friends, It has been a busy transition from September to October, with Shetland Wool Week spanning the end of one month and the beginning of this month. So, newsletter is a little late! We had a lovely afternoon tea with fancy tea pots, scones, and yummy finger foods to celebrate the end of wool week, capping things off with some great short films about Shetland fleece, knitting, and crofting. We heard positive feedback from attendees, so don't be surprised if we hold another tea in the future. It was fun having company and good tea. We're excited to welcome new yarns and the resupply of old favorites, as well as the beginning of our Fall classes getting ready for the holidays. Berroco Ultra Alpaca and Ultra Wool have been resupplied just in time for new projects and Michelle's stocking class. And we have a new yarn from Ella Rae called Rustic Aran, a wonderful blend of British Wool and silk.

Join us Thursday afternoon/evening on October 23 as we make these together. We provide the patterns and yarn, and we will send the finished products to the Knitted Knockers charity. Drop in any time from 1 to 6 pm, bring US#4 double-pointed needles or size G crochet hook. We will provide the recommended yarn and pattern copy! This is a fun knit-along for a good cause. October Classes and Events Saturday October 11 at 10 - 1 pm Toe-up Socks on double-pointed needles with Kerry - $65 Together we will make a mini toe-up sock in worsted weight and larger needles over this 3-hour class. We will cast-on a seamless toe, knit a short-row heel, and learn a stretchy bind-off in this toe-up sock class using double-pointed needles. It is helpful if this is not your first time using double-pointed needles. Those who only use magic loop method (one or two needles) may take this class but the seamless toe cast on will be challenging. Why toe up? It lends itself to using small bits of sock yarn and leftovers you have from other projects, allowing you to use these yarns up as you go without worrying about playing yarn chicken!
Saturday October 18 from 10 to 1 pm. Square of the Month - $25 includes yarn kit and instruction. Book sold separately. Third Saturday mornings from 10 to noon we will meet to learn a new granny square pattern form the excellent book "A Year In Granny Squares" by Kylie Moleta. Maddy and Sara will teach students to make the square from kits we provide. Purchase of the book is required to participate, each month a new kit will be offered for the featured square. A student discount will be offered for purchase of the book. Not appropriate for a complete beginner who has never crocheted before. However you can jump in at any month of the crochet year if you have basic crochet skills. Saturday October 19 Knitted Ghost - Learn to use double-pointed needles and knit in the round with Cheryl. $50 Just in time for Halloween learn to craft a fun stuffed ghost! This class is a great introduction to toy-making. We'll learn how to work in the round with double-pointed needles (dpns), a skill needed for making hats and socks too. We also cover how knitting toys differs from other knitting projects and finishing techniques that will keep your toy looking great even after hours of play. Pre-requisite: Students must know how to cast on, knit, and purl without assistance. Pattern: Gus an Augustus CHOSTS. The pattern is free on Ravelry. We recommend printing the pattern ahead of time, or showing up a bit early so we can print it for you in the shop.
